Repair and Care

The Norman Chapel Project

The Norman Chapel was built around 1080 AD, probably by the Bishop William of St Calais. It is the oldest standing building in Durham. The Chapel is currently undergoing a £2.5 million conservation effort to prevent the total decay of the building’s structure.

The Norman Chapel Project is a collaborative effort with conservators, construction professionals, curators, and archaeologists dedicating their expertise to the preservation of the Chapel for future generations.
